ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The three TV fights for HBO’s tripleheader Saturday night from Boardwalk Hall are set. RING junior featherweight champion and WBO/WBA 122-pound titlist Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 knockouts) looked in great shape, tipping the scales at a sleek 121 pounds.
Rigondeaux’s opponent, 33-year-old Joseph Agbeko (29-4, 22 KOs), former IBF bantamweight titlist, came in at 121.6.
In the two other TV bouts, James Kirkland (31-1, 27 KOs) came in at 155.1, while his opponent, undefeated 23-year-old prospect Glen Tapia (20-0, 12 KOs) was 156 pounds. This will be Tapia’s fifth fight this year. He’s now fought five times twice within a calendar year.
“This is the best shape James has been in a long while, and that shows he’s committed to fighting again,” said Ann Wolfe, Kirkland’s trainer. “He allowed me to bust his ass and get him in shape like he did earlier in his career. James is ready and he’s going to put on a James Kirkland-type fight.”
Both Matthew Macklin (29-5, 20 KOs) and Lamar Russ (14-0, 7 KOs) each weighed 159 pounds for their 10-round bout.
