The rematch between Tim Bradley and Manny Pacquiao was officially announced by Top Rank on Saturday. The welterweight standouts will fight on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Bradley won the WBO welterweight belt from Pacquiao via controversial decision in June of 2012.
The rematch will be televised on HBO Pay-Per-View.
Both fighters and their teams will embark on a U.S. media tour the week of Feb. 3, including press conferences in Los Angeles and New York on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and Thursday, Feb. 6, respectively.
When Bradley won their first bout, which also took place at the MGM Grand, it ended Pacquiao's welterweight title reign as well as a historic seven-year, 15-bout winning streak.
Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs), the lone congressional representative from the Sarangani province in the Philippines (he was reelected to a second term, running unopposed last year), is the only fighter to win eight world titles in as many different weight divisions. The Filipino icon is also a three-time Fighter of the Year and the Boxing Writers Association of America's "Fighter of the Decade" (for the 2000s).
Pacquiao suffered a shocking sixth-round KO to arch nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez in December of 2012, but he returns to the ring after a dominating boxing clinic over former lightweight titleholder and 140-pound contender Brandon Rios last November, his only fight of 2013.
Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs), from Palm Springs, Calif., is a two-division titleholder who unified the junior welterweight belts twice during his previous four-year reign. He returns to the ring after three consecutive career-best victories. After moving up in weight and beating Pacquiao in 2012, Bradley co-starred in the 2013 Fight of the Year last March, winning a brutal 12-round decision over Ruslan Provodnikov. In his most recent fight, in October, Bradley gave a virtuoso performance in defeating Marquez by a split decision that most observers felt he won handily. Bradley is currently the consensus choice for No. 3 pound-for-pound rated boxer by all credible boxing writers, websites and publications.
