An angry Amir Khan has declared on his Twitter account that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is "full of s–t" for indicating on his own Twitter page that he would face Khan after defeating Marcos Maidana on May 3.

The scenario was actually initially tweeted by Khan to Mayweather, who re-tweeted Khan's suggestion on his own page. Under the scenario, Khan would first have to beat former titleholder Adrien Broner on the Mayweather-Maidana undercard before earning the right to face Mayweather.

Khan owns a unanimous-decision victory over Maidana, who scored knockdowns in the fourth and eighth rounds of a unanimous decision that dethroned Broner as WBA welterweight titleholder in December.

"I don't have an easy fight on May 3, 2014, so I can't over look @ChinoMaidana," wrote Mayweather. "But @AmirKingKhan, if you and @AdrienBroner end up fighting each other on my show and you win (which you won’t)…I'll fight you."

Khan still is miffed because Mayweather chose to fight Maidana after a fan poll on the Mayweather Promotions' website favored Khan as the opponent over Maidana.

"FM is full of s–t," wrote Khan on Monday. "Just like [his] next opponent poll."

During an interview with Showtime's Steve Farhood on Friday night, Mayweather (45-0, 26 knockouts) defended his selection of Maidana.

"Maidana has come back, lately, very, very impressively," said Mayweather, who turned 37 last month. "(He's) had a lot of great wins lately, whereas Amir Khan is 2-2 in his last four fights. So I chose the better man."

A 27-year-old former junior welterweight beltholder, Khan took to his Twitter account last week by listing Broner as perhaps his chief target, along with IBF 147-pound beltholder Shawn Porter, and ex-titleholders Devon Alexander and Robert Guerrero.

Broner, Porter and Alexander are advised by the powerful Al Haymon, as is Mayweather.

"Fighting [Kell] Brook wont get me the Floyd fight," wrote Khan, in part. "Fighting Broner, Guerrero, Alexander, Porter will. If Adrien Broner wants it let's do it. Maidana knocked him down twice. I'll knock him out."
