Lem’s latest: HBO’s ’2 Days’ on Sergio Martinez airs May 17

HBO will devote a 2 Days documentary segment to Sergio Martinez on May 17 at 12:30 a.m., ET/PT in advance of Martinez's June 7 defense of his RING and WBC middleweight championships against three-division titleholder Miguel Cotto at New York's Madison Square Garden, the network announced on Wednesday.

The show will air immediately after the broadcast of a welterweight bout between four-division titlewinner Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado, hosted by The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., on HBO's World Championship Boxing.

2 Days will look at the 48-hour span in the life of a Martinez, a 39-year-old southpaw, prior to last April's unanimous decision over Martin Murray, against whom he had to rise from an eighth-round knockdown before some 40,000 hometown fans in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

ISHE SMITH-RYAN DAVIS UNDERCARD ANNOUNCED

LAS VEGAS — The state of Ohio will be well-represented on Friday at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino when Cincinnati's Rau'shee Warren, Jamel Herring and Javonte Clark, Toledo's Robert Easter Jr. and Cleveland's Raynell Williams take part in undercard bouts leading up to a tripleheader whose main event features ex-titleholder Ishe Smith. The former IBF junior middleweight titlist faces Ryan Davis on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes, Golden Boy Promotions announced on Tuesday.

In addition, once-beaten lightweight Mickey Bey will take on Alan Herrera and former titleholder Rico Ramos meets Jesus Cuellar in a featherweight bout.

A three-time U.S. Olympian, the 27-year-old Warren (10-0, 3 KOs) will take part in his first 10-rounder against Martin Ricardo Alvarado (7-2, 6 KOs) in a bantamweight bout. The 23-year-old Easter (9-0, 8 KOs) will pursue yet another win against Carlos Cardenas (20-7-1, 13 KOs) in a lightweight bout, this, after an eight-round shutout of Daniel Attah ended his knockout streak in January.

In another lightweight bout, 2012 Olympian Herring (7-0, 4 KOs), who is 28, takes on Rogelio Cazarez (6-1, 3 KOs), a 23-year-old who is riding a four-fight winning streak.

Also in action will be lightweight Williams (3-0, 3 KOs) opposite Joshua Arocho (3-8-4, 2 KOs) and welterweight Clark (1-0, 1 KO) against Miguel Rico (2-5-1).

KARIM MAYFIELD A FREE AGENT

Junior welterweight Karim Mayfield (18-1-1, 11 KOs) has declared himself a free agent following the end of his promotional agreement with Top Rank Promotions, according to a release by Mario Serrano.

"Now that I'm a free agent, I feel I have more options to compete against other fighters in the top 10 of my division," said Mayfield, 33, who is coming off last month's unanimous decision loss to Thomas Dulorme (21-1, 14 KOs).

"One loss is not going to stop me from trying to accomplish my goal of becoming a world champion. If all goes well, I'll be fighting in San Francisco at Kezar Pavilion in June. I still have a lot of fight left in me and I'm open to working with other promoters in the future."

Among Mayfield's biggest victories was a triumph over Mauricio Herrera in October 2012.
