Juan Manuel Marquez cruises to UD over Mike Alvarado

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Juan Manuel Marquez easily outpointed Mike Alvarado in a 12-round junior welterweight fight before 12,090 Saturday at the Forum.

Marquez (56-7-1, 40 knockouts) outboxed and outslugged Alvarado (34-3, 23 K0s), who couldn't seem to figure out the aging, but still-crafty Mexican. Marquez used his boxing skills to create opportunities and then pounced when they occurred, regularly landing vicious combinations before Alvarado could react.

Alvardo had his moments – including a knockdown in Round 9 – but simply couldn't keep pace with Marquez, who also scored a knockdown in Round 8. Alvarado's face was badly battered by the end of the fight.

Marquez landed 278 of 627 total punches and 163 of 287 power punches, according to CompuBox. Alvarado was 178 of 510 overall and 85 of 250 in power shots. Marquez outlanded Alvarado in 11 of 12 rounds.
