British prospect Darren Barker Tweeted that a clash with Sergio Martinez on Oct. 1 is close to being finalized.

Undefeated British middleweight prospect Darren Barker said on his Twitter account that a clash with RING middleweight champion Sergio Martinez on Oct. 1 is close to being finalized.

Barker (23-0, 14 knockouts) would be taking a major step in class against Martinez (47-2-2) but the 29-year-old north Londoner is undaunted at the prospect.

"Thanks for all your support. I've got a tough one, so I am going to need it. But I am confident," Barker Tweeted this week.

According to Barker's manager, Eddie Hearn, details of the bout, which will take place in America, will be announced once contracts have been exchanged.
