Mayorga next for Alvarez?

Saul Alvarez's manager sees former welterweight champ Ricardo Mayorga as a viable opponent for "Canelo."

The man who manages WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez sees Ricardo Mayorga as an attractive opponent for the unbeaten 20-year-old.

Jose "Chepo" Reynoso sees the wild-swinging Nicaraguan as an educational challenge for Alvarez at this point in his career, possibly in September.

"We like Mayorga," Reynoso told Jose Luis Camarillo of notifight.com. "He can help Saul learn a lot."

Alvarez improved to 37-0-1 Saturday with a 12th-round stoppage of British challenger Ryan Rhodes in Guadalajara, the 27th knockout of his career.

Mayorga re-ignited a stagnant career in March with a crowd-pleasing performance against Miguel Cotto, a fight he eventually lost by TKO in the final minute. The 37-year-old former two-division world champ is 29-8-1, with 23 KOs.
