Thompson-Chambers still a go

The bout was to be a precursor to the postponed Andre Ward-Carl Froch fight.

A Showtime-televised IBF heavyweight eliminator between southpaw Tony Thompson and Eddie Chambers is still set for Oct. 28 in Atlantic City, N.J., despite the postponement of a fight between WBA super middleweight titleholder Andre Ward and WBC counterpart Carl Froch, which was slated to take place the next night.

Ward (24-0, 13 KOs) was to face Froch (28-1, 20 KOs) in the final bout of Showtime's Super Six World Boxing Classic at Boardwalk Hall, but suffered a cut over his right eye and had to pull out. A replacement date for the fight is yet to be decided.

The match-up between Thompson (36-2, 24 KOs) and Chambers (36-2, 18 KOs) will take place at the Bally's Event Center.
