Khan to return in April or May?

Amir Khan is hoping to face Lamont Peterson in a return bout in April or May.

RingTV.com has learned that The Telegraph will report that Amir Khan expects to return to the ring on April 19 on HBO likely in Las Vegas. Other dates include May 5 and May 19, Khan's manager, Asif Vali, told RingTV.com on Wednesday.

Lamont Peterson dethroned Khan as IBF/WBA junior welterweight beltholder by disputed split-decision last month, although the WBA has ordered an immediate rematch in response to an appeal by Khan.

WBA President Gilberto Mendoza granted Peterson 10 days from Jan. 14 to appeal the organization's decision, and Peterson, in turn, has filed an official protest of the WBA's order.

Peterson's appeal came in the wake of Golden Boy Promotions withdrawing its own filing against the IBF, a move which canceled a Wednesday hearing with that organization in New Jersey.

Golden Boy and Khan had been seeking to overturn the victory or get an order for an immediate rematch on the grounds that the fight was poorly officiated and that there were scorecard descrepancies.

"We have a couple of dates in mind. April 19 is one of the dates. May 5 is one of the dates and May 19th is one of the dates," said Vali. "We're obviously waiting to see what Lamont Peterson is doing."

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has offered Peterson "a 50-50 split of world wide revenues and United Kingdom revenues" in the hopes of securing a rematch with Khan.

"We made Peterson an offer yesterday," said Vali. "We're going to give it a few days, and if Peterson doesn't take it, then we'll move on."

Peterson was initially offered $1 million by Schaefer to face Khan in a return bout after having pocketed a career-best $650,000 to Khan's $1.1 million in their first bout.

Peterson is also being considered for a shot at Manny Pacquiao, as are Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel CottoJuan Manuel Marquez, and Tim Bradley.

Mayweather has targeted May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for his next bout, but Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum and Michael Koncz -- Pacquiao's promoter and advisor -- have all but dismissed that date for Mayweather-Pacquiao, citing their camp's desire to have built a 40,000-seat, temporary outdoor venue on the Las Vegas strip in late May or early-June to maximize revenue.

Mayweather is slated to begin a 90-day jail sentence staring on June 1.

Arum is also considering Peterson for Marquez and Bradley, the latter of whom decisioned Peterson for his WBO belt in December of 2009. Marquez has expressed the desire to face Peterson.

In regard to the May 5 date coinciding with Mayweather's target date of returning to the ring, Vali would neither  confirm or deny weather Khan has become a consideration for Mayweather, who, like Khan, has been  promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

"We have May 5 as an option. I can't go into anything else, but those are the dates. We have options, I will just tell you that," said Vali. "We made a very, very good offer to Lamont Peterson, and that offer will only be on the table for so long."
