Alfredo Angulo is a consideration for the May 4 Floyd Mayweather-Robert Guerrero undercard.

Former junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo is being considered for the undercard of the May 4 showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Robert Guerrero. The Mexican veteran would face a Puerto Rican opponent, according to his manager and counsel Michael Miller.

The presence of Angulo (22-2, 18 knockouts) makes sense due to the fact that Mayweather is defending his WBC welterweight belt against Mexican-American Guerrero on Cinco De Mayo weekend, a celebrated Mexican holiday.

Angulo would also help make up for the May 4 PPV losing popular Mexican Saul Alvarez. The WBC 154-pound beltholder's fight with WBA titleholder Austin Trout will now happen on April 20 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Showtime, rather than as the co-feature to Mayweather-Guerrero.

"We're a consideration for the May 4 card," Miller told RingTV.com. "The pay per view part of the card, but nothing is final and nothing is official. We're being considered. We got a call this week from [Golden Boy Promotions] matchmaker Eric [Gomez] so we're kicking around potential opponents and that sort of thing, but it has to be blessed first.

"With Canelo being off, I think that they want a Mexican on the card, so that makes sense. It looks like we might be fighting a Puerto Rican opponent, which everyone loves. Mexico versus Puerto Rico again. That's what we're talking about. I mean, we might be in the running with some others, but we're already talking about weight and money and that kind of stuff. But, again, it's nothing official. Nothing's concrete. Negotiations still are ongoing."

Angulo has won two straight since falling by third-round knockout to southpaw James Kirkland (31-1, 27 KOs), who rose from a first-round knock down to stop Angulo in November of 2011.

Angulo has since scored a 56-second knockout of Raul Casarez and a unanimous decision over Jorge Silva in November and December, respectively.
