RingTV.com has live round-by-round updates of Ruslan Provodnikov’s 10th-round knockout of Mike Alvarado for Alvarado’s WBO junior welterweight belt. The HBO World Championship Boxing broadcast began at 9:45 p.m. ET.
Juan Diaz, who recently turned 30, fights unheralded Juan Santiago on Saturday on the Mike Alvarado-Ruslan Provodnikov undercard. The former unified lightweight titleholder, who took two years off, says he’s motivated again to regain world-class form and a world title.
Ruslan Provodnikov’s manager Vadim Kornilov told RingTV.com on Wednesday that the Russian slugger, who fights Mike Alvarado on Saturday, will likely do so without his noted trainer Freddie Roach in his corner. Roach is in the Philippines, training Manny Pacquiao for Brandon Rios.
Ruslan Provodikov was one-half of one of the best fights so far of 2013, his brutal 12-round battle with Tim Bradley in March. The Russian bomber tells RingTV.com that his Saturday showdown with Mike Alvarado will be just as dramatic. “I think it will be another candidate for fight of the year,” said Provodnikov.
Junior welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov, who will face WBO beltholder Mike Alvarado on Oct. 19, said that he is pulling for both Tim Bradley and Manny Pacquiao in their respective fights with Juan Manuel Marquez and Brandon Rios.
