Anthony Dirrell, an unbeaten super middleweight contender and cancer survivor, is recovering from surgery to repair a broken leg he suffered in a motorcycle accident on Friday.
The promoter of RING super middleweight champion Andre Ward has his sights on a potential rise into the light heavyweight division for a matchup opposite the winner between RING and WBC titleholder Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson.
Anthony Dirrell: "This is Andre Ward's time, and I don't want to take anything away from him. But when the time comes, then it comes. I'm his WBC mandatory, and we want our shot at the world title."
Andre Dirrell will face Darryl Cunningham on the Jermain Taylor card in Dec. 30 in Palm Springs, Calif.
The Dirrell brothers, Andre and Anthony, are being discussed as possible opponents for IBF super middleweight titleholder Lucian Bute in the fall or early next year.
