Former WBC middleweight beltholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. can resume his fighting career after June 15, in accordance with a nine-month suspension handed down on Thursday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission as a result of his positive drug test for marijuana use.

Attorneys for Julio Cesar Chavez have requested a maximum six-month suspension and a $10,000 fine as a penalty for his positive drug test for marijuana following September's loss to Sergio Martinez. Chavez can be suspended for up to a year and fined the entire amount of his $3 million purse, or a combination of both.
